Course Descriptions
Beginning Foil
This class is an introduction to classical fencing and the teaching weapon of fencing, foil. We teach the stance, basic footwork, parries, disengage and the general conventions of foil as well as some of the history. Students will gain a good general understanding of fencing and its principles. At the end of the class, students have the opportunity to engage in controlled bouting with experienced fencers. We ask that students wear loose, unbinding clothes (no jeans or shorts please) and good tennis shoes. (No fencing equipment of your own is required.)
Intermediate Foil
The intermediate class builds on the foundation laid in the beginner class. In this class students will revisit the previously learned moves and principles within the kinetic environment of bouting. Even heavier on concept than its predecessor, the intermediate class will seek to ready the student for the rigors of fencing an opponent. Half of each session is dedicated to reviewing or learning new concepts and movements while the other half is dedicated to controlled bouting. (No fencing equipment of your own is required.)
